Jamaica has a rich musical history that has extended far beyond the geographical boundaries of the island. Throughout Jamaica, music is used as a key form of expression, social coordination, and communication across all generations. In the US, Jamaica’s musical influence has resulted in the creation of new genres, fostered collaboration between artists and other cultures, and inspired countless leaders.Kurt was an avid musician who enjoyed playing for the keyboard for his church in White Shop Jamaica. Before his passing, he had a stated interest in sharing his joy of music with others by teaching classes and inspiring those around him.It is our premise that by investing in music education, we can honor the memory and passions of Kurt, while simultaneously making a positive impact on the youth in the US and Jamaica.

Gun violence remains a pervasive issue in many communities, robbing young people of their potential and safety. This challenge is deeply personal to the foundation, as Kurt Douglas himself was a victim of such violence. To honor his memory, the foundation is committed to addressing the root causes of gun violence. Through evidence-based interventions, community engagement, and advocacy, we work to reduce the prevalence of gun-related incidents. Initiatives such as conflict resolution training, public awareness campaigns, and the establishment of safe spaces aim to protect vulnerable populations and create environments where youth can feel secure and supported.

Economic empowerment is a cornerstone of the foundation’s vision for the future. In Jamaica, youth unemployment rates are alarmingly high (26.1% compared to overall employment of 9.18%), perpetuating cycles of poverty and limiting opportunities for growth. The foundation seeks to break these barriers by providing pathways to meaningful careers. We are building programs that connect young people with mentors, offer vocational training, and foster partnerships with local and international businesses to create internships and job opportunities. Additionally, we aim to equip youth with the skills and resources needed to succeed in a rapidly changing global economy.
